Grant of a Badge

Badge of the Fédération québécoise des sociétés de généalogieBlazonA hurt charged with a three-masted ship and edged with interlaced roots Argent set with in chief a fleur-de-lis, in base and in the flanks three escutcheons points outwards, and in saltire four birch leaves stems inwards Or SymbolismThis badge was granted to the Federation for use as the main identifying symbol of the XXVIII International Congress of Genealogical and Heraldic Science in Quebec City in June 2008. Its components symbolize the theme, subject and location of the Congress. It is shaped like a compass rose, a tool used by travellers seeking a new world. There is a fleur-de-lis at the North, as on the ancient maps of the French regime. The other compass points are marked alternately by birch leaves, the arboreal symbol of Quebec, and shields. These elements represent genealogical and heraldic sciences. Champlain’s ship, the Don de Dieu, sails on the blue background and refers to the arms of Quebec City, where the Congress is taking place. Finally, the circle is made of intertwining roots, as a reference to genealogy as well as to the ties between the people who shaped Quebec society. |
