Arms of Marc-André Rioux Ltée

Blazon

Azure three orbs in bend between two bendlets all within a bordure Or;

Symbolism

The arms echo the symbolism found on Mr. Gilbert Rioux’s coat of arms with a gold border to indicate that the business was founded by the Rioux family. Historically, orbs symbolize temporal power. Here, they represent part of the motto of Marc-André Rioux Ltée, a business founded by Mr. Rioux’s father. They are also a reference to New France and to Seigneur Jean Riou, the family’s earliest ancestor in Canada.

Crest

Blazon

A dove wings elevated and addorsed Argent holding in its dexter claw two lightning bolts in saltire and a sceptre fesswise Or;

Symbolism

The dove symbolizes universal peace. The lightning bolts and sceptre refer to communication and power. The fact that these two elements are held by the dove means that they are in the service of peace.

Motto

Blazon

IN SPIRITU VIRTUTIS ET DILECTIONIS ET SOBRIETATIS;

Symbolism

This means “In a spirit of strength, love and self discipline,” and is an adaptation of a quote from the Second Epistle to Timothy in the Bible.

Supporters

Blazon

Dexter a wolf sinister a lynx, each guardant proper, supporting a banner Azure charged with the monogram MAR encircled by two laurel branches Or, and standing on a grassy mound set with a waterfall proper;

Symbolism

The wolf (loup in French) refers to Rivière-du-Loup, where the Rioux family and business have been for many generations. The lynx is known for its keen eyesight; here, it is used allegorically. Each animal is holding a banner bearing a monogram consisting of the letters M, A and R, representing the name of the funeral home and the business’s former emblem. The elements of the mount in base symbolize the environment of the Parc des Chutes in Rivière-du-Loup.
