Gordon Guyatt has advanced medical decision making worldwide. A distinguished professor at McMaster University, he played a major role in defining the concept of and developing the methods for evidence-based medicine. He led its application to clinical practice guidelines, playing a key role in the development of the widely adopted GRADE approach to rating quality of evidence and strength of recommendations. Also concerned with social justice, he was a founder of the Medical Reform Group.
