      His work in the development of human genetics has had a significant impact on various approaches to health care and continues to receive world-wide recognition. He is a respected member of the Institute for Population Research, a group of professionals dedicated to the study of global human genetic diversity. His international calibre as a medical researcher has been confirmed by his appointment to numerous associations, including the presidency of the American Pediatric Society.       Professor at McGill University and Co-Director of Medical Genetics at the Montreal Children's Hospital, he has, through his research, become an internationally-known contributor to the development of methods of treating children with a variety of genetically-determined metabolic diseases. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Québec Network of Genetic Medicine, which now screens all babies born in the Province for a variety of these diseases which can be successfully treated if discovered early.
