As president of the University of Toronto and former dean of the law faculty, he is among the foremost academics in the legal profession. Thanks largely to his leadership, the Bora Laskin Law Library came into being and the law faculty strengthened its research capability. Nationally, he provided the foundation for a program in law and society, given by the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
