He is a civil engineer whose contributions to the Alberta construction industry, particularly in concrete, were a major factor in the post-war strength of that sector. Since retirement from the University of Alberta to enter private business in Calgary, he has served ably on many educational institutions' governing bodies and commissions, been executive director of the Canada West Foundation and an active member of many professional and community associations.
