Corporal Prior was deployed to Afghanistan with an operational mentoring and liaison team, from January to August 2008. His initiative and understanding of logistical requirements expedited the deployment of a Canadian mentoring team to an isolated Afghan National Army outpost, and ensured they were well prepared for an intense,
two-month operation. Despite increasingly determined insurgent attacks, his mentoring of Afghan soldiers ensured their composure and discipline under fire. Corporal Prior’s decisive leadership ensured the operational success at the strong point.
