Vigil in Tumbler Ridge

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada took part in a vigil honouring the victims of Tumbler Ridge.

Governor General Simon joined Prime Minister Mark Carney, Leader of the Official Opposition Pierre Poilievre, local community leaders and residents at a solemn candlelight vigil held at the town square. Together, they gathered to honor the memory of the victims and to offer support to the families affected by the recent tragedy.

During the visit, the Governor General spoke privately with first responders to discuss the profound resilience being shown by the community. She had the opportunity to witness firsthand the strength of the local spirit as neighbors supported one another, emphasizing that even in the darkest of times, the compassion and unity of Canadians remain a guiding light.

Speaking on behalf of all Canadians, Her Excellency offered her deepest condolences to the families of the victims and expressed profound gratitude for the first responders and mental health professionals supporting the town.

With all their brilliance, your children made a lasting mark on this community and on the lives they touched. Your memories of them will continue to shine brightly through this dark time.
