Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada attended the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues today where she delivered a keynote address. Canada’s first Indigenous Governor General’s presence affirms our country’s leadership in advancing Indigenous rights both domestically and globally.
The health of Indigenous Peoples is rooted in their culture and their self-determination.
Alongside her keynote address and discussions with global leaders, she met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, like-minded partners, Indigenous representatives, youth and key stakeholders advancing the enhanced participation of Indigenous Peoples within the UN and in New York.
She also had the opportunity to spend time with members of the Canadian delegation—underscoring the importance of partnership and shared purpose in advancing Indigenous rights.
