Letters of Credence Ceremony

Governor General Mary Simon welcomed seven new heads of mission to Canada during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.

The following new heads of mission presented their credentials to the Governor General:

Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador

Her Excellency Grietje “Margriet Vonno” Landman
Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

His Excellency John Concannon
Ambassador of Ireland

Her Excellency Geneviève Anne M. Tuts
Head of Delegation and Ambassador of the European Union

His Excellency Stavros Hatziyiannis
High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus

His Excellency Andreas Rendl
Ambassador of the Republic of Austria

Her Excellency Artemis Malo
Ambassador of the Republic of Albania

Upon their arrival in Canada, new heads of mission must present their letters of credence to the governor general before they can carry out their duties. Letters of credence are the official documents that accredit a diplomat as an ambassador or high commissioner to another country.
