Presentation of Letters of Credence

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, welcomed nine new heads of mission to Canada during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.

The following new heads of mission presented their credentials:

Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan

His Excellency Issimaïl Chanfi
Ambassador of the Union of the Comoros

His Excellency Sidi Mohamed Laghdaf
Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania

His Excellency Jean Claude Félix do Rego
Ambassador of the Republic of Benin

His Excellency Onkokame Kitso Mokaila
High Commissioner for the Republic of Botswana

Her Excellency Margareth Natalie Mensah-Williams
High Commissioner for the Republic of Namibia

Her Excellency Nicole Catherine Marie Bintner
Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Upon their arrival in Canada, new heads of mission must present their letters of credence to the governor general before they can carry out their duties. Letters of credence are the official documents that accredit a diplomat as an ambassador or high commissioner to another country.
