Governor General of Canada to Welcome
His Excellency Juan Manuel Santos Calderón,
President of the Republic of Colombia
OTTAWA—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will welcome His Excellency Juan Manuel Santos Calderón, President of the Republic of Colombia, to Rideau Hall on Monday, October 30, 2017, on the occasion of the President’s State visit to Canada.
The detailed itinerary of events involving the Governor General and President Santos can be found below:
Official Welcoming Ceremony
An official welcoming ceremony, with military honours, will be held at Rideau Hall. The President of the Republic of Colombia will conduct an inspection of a guard of honour. Both the Governor General and the President will deliver remarks on this occasion.

Ceremonial Tree Planting
The President will plant a bitternut hickory tree (Carya cordiformis) on the grounds of Rideau Hall to commemorate his State visit to Canada. The wood of the bitternut hickory is known for its durability and strength, which reflect our countries’ important relationship.
Close to 150 commemorative trees grace the grounds of Rideau Hall, the official residence of the governor general of Canada. They mark visits by members of the Royal Family, heads of State and other dignitaries.

In honour of the President’s visit to Canada, Her Excellency will host a State dinner at Rideau Hall. The Governor General and the President will deliver remarks on this occasion.
