2017 Mental Health Week

May 1, 2017

Message from Their Excellencies on the Occasion of Mental Health Week

OTTAWA—Since the beginning of our mandate, we have made mental health a priority and have taken every opportunity to reduce the stigma that surrounds it. Mental Health Week is the ideal time to learn more about this important issue.

Too many Canadians living with mental health problems suffer in silence, when many programs and services are available that get results. Mental health issues affect us all, in various ways, and this is one reason why we think it is essential to help inform the public, especially young people, about the assistance and tools that they can access.

This year, Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation provides us with a unique opportunity to showcase our culture, our history and our immense homegrown talent. We will also use this opportunity to get together and show what we are doing to promote mental health.

This fall, on Saturday, September 9, Canadians are invited to participate in the Masquerade for Mental Health on the grounds of Rideau Hall. The event will consist of an informative and interactive fair that will culminate in a concert. So mark your calendar and join us for an extraordinary event!

David and Sharon Johnston

This year, Mental Health Week is taking place from May 1 to 7, 2017.
