Transferring of Insignia

It is recognized that the insignia of the Order of Canada represents a great source of pride for families of deceased Order of Canada recipients. Therefore, you should know that it is possible for a loved one to become the caretaker of your insignia after your passing.

Given that the insignia is property of the Crown, the Chancellery of Honours requests that it be informed in writing of a transfer from a recipient to a family member. The letter should include the insignia serial number as well as the new contact information for the person now in possession of the insignia. It can be addressed to the Director of Honours, Chancellery of Honours, Rideau Hall, 1 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A1.

The Chancellery should also be contacted should you or your family choose to publicly display your insignia in a museum or other suitable venue. In such cases, a memorandum of understanding will be prepared regarding the loan of the insignia.
